There were some serious problems with town crashes when using Win2000 (the town "movie" is a compressed file and Win2000 can't process it properly [there is a fix]). If you're using 98 or Me I'd recommend installing the V1.0 patch to see if it helps. If not then you might change video modes in the game, or last resort, uninstall and reinstall. If you do the latter into the previously installed location your savegames should survive. Good luck.
