Longtooth means those cougar-like animals running about the islands; turn your encounters up to often (if they're not there already) to find one more quickly.
As a sidenote, you've got a much better chance of getting the fur off of one if you "pickpocket" him. Ludicrous, I know, but you can (and should) also pickpocket the shells off of those conchs
