If you have never played an Icewind Dale game before, you should know that it's not a traditional roleplaying game like Baldur's Gate. It's a dungeon crawl adventure game. The focus is on the combat, so the game is a lot more linear, and there is a lot less dialogs.
It's a good game, but it's not Baldur's Gate III.
In Icewind Dale, the adventure happen north around the Spine of the world. You create your whole team of characters, and there is no main character in them, they are all adventurers. The game is also harder than Bladur's Gate. Here's a quote from a game review:
Quote:
Only one problem... some of the battles are exceedingly hard, even when playing on the medium level of difficulty. For example, one battle I entered left me with only 2 of my party members surviving after reloading the game nearly 15 times. That's intense.

There is a lot of humor in the game, and technically speaking the dialogs that are in the game are done a lot better than those in Baldur's Gate. If you start as a Drow, and talk to the guard at the beginning of the game, he's going to be scared of you, for example. Also there are 3 new skils that allow you more flexibility while talking to people. Diplomacy, Intimidation, and Bluff.
Once, I Intimidated a mind Flayer into running away from me, and bluffed a ogre into thinking I was it's boss. If you play as an elf, you can speak and understand more languages, like orc and goblin, and that give you an advantage in some part of the game.
Here is a review of the game.
