Dundee, there is a bag of holding in BG1, however, obtainable only via mod. Pritchke mentioned DSotSC, and I'll give you a link to Ease-of-Use mod for Baldur's Gate 1. It will be incredibly useful to BG2 veteran like you.
BoH is buggy and user unfriendly.
There is also potion stacking included.
