My personal preference when dualing barbarians with alot of strength is to give them one bladed weapon and one blunt weapon. That way, you are dealing out two different types of damage, just in case one is ineffective or less effective. Usually in higher levels of the game...you'll see various enemies having armor resistences to certain weapons. So...My barbarian dwarf has a hammer in his strong hand and a hand-axe in the off-hand. He's very effective.
