Well, I agree with you. You should definately immerse yourself while playing, or the game isn't really worth playing. Maybe my first post was a bit rushed without giving much thought to it. Now that I am home, and have taken my shoes off...I can think better!
Seems to me, 3rd Edition has alot of people that are used to 2nd Edition messed up. In 3rd Edition, you have to realize what is going on with the stats that are different than before, and maybe that is why your little-guy didn't do so well. I dunno. I am only guessing at this one...but I do know that your stats have to line up the right way for a class to properly perform. I read it on here some time ago, where a guy was talking about how to effectively reduce the penalties and up the bonuses for his character by knowing how the properties of the stats coordinate with one another.
