Luvian is correct. The older priest is teaching the initiates lessons. The content of these lessons contains the answers to the "password" questions that you will be asked if you try to covertly infiltrate the Yuan-ti temple.
As to whether taking out the temple covertly is worth more than by direct force, I cannot say. I've done it both ways, although I usually prefer the direct approach (often have a pure-class paladin in my group that cannot wear the initiate robe).
The one particularly fun thing about the sneaky method was battling the entire congregation in the temple's chapel. Good fun! [img]smile.gif[/img]
