I've never used a mod myself, but I have used an editor. I made the mistake of giving an elf a level as a barbarian for the extra hit points and then multiclassing to rogue. I didn't realize this would result in a 20% eperience penalty until I'd saved. I used the editor (called Dale Keeper II) to change the character's race to human and all was well. (O.K., at least.)
