Wrong machine. The machine he is refering to is a dial just south of the White Abashai (sp) caves. What he means is stand to the left of the dial and rotate it till it lists the correct direction, then walk around to it's right side and rotate it again to the direction listed. For example, using your post, stand to the left and rotate till pointing to the SW, then walk around to the right side and rotate till pointing Northwest. That's it. You'll hear some doors open in the distance (or see some open depending on the combination). There is more then one door that uses this dial as a key.
