Maybe you mean that wizard prisoner in the Dragon's Eye jail? The very first
thing he does is cast non-detection. That skunks any "show" spell like See
Invisibility or Invis Purge and the like. So yeah, those spells are really
useless. I never used them myself.
All you can try against this is to hit the mage enough so he can't get the
invis off. Also, I tried Dispell Magic, and that didn't help, either.
