The non-important villagers always just stick around for a while. After a few rest periods, they usually leave. It's not broken, they just aren't very smart. [img]smile.gif[/img]
The problem for you is:
1) If Sheemish left without you talking to him, I don't think you get the XP or the hammer for saving him.
2) If you rested before talking to the villagers at the exit to lvl 2, you don't get the XP for saving them.
Neither of them is critical, but the XP gain is fairly significant for that stage of the game, especially for small parties, which you definitely have.
If you're not averse to using a flail, I believe the stunning flail (behind Presio) is a non-random item.
I'd be interested to hear how you do against Y, running a solo game without a bow-enabled archer.
