If you are outside take the NE exit. This will lead you to an outside area with 4 exits, 1 is the way you came, 1 with the gate is another way to Wyrms tooth (Inside were the slaves were), 1 will take you to lower dorms, and the 4th will bring the map up. As soon as you get to Wyrms Tooth you can access Lower Dorms as well. I would say your missing the NE passage. Basically You can't get to Lower Dorn directly from Upper Dorn.
