I have had the same problems and many more. My advice..uninstall completely and reinstall. If you have any saved games put them in another folder so you don't have to start from the beginning.
In my case I had to actually go into the registry and delete the files there because the uninstaller wouldn't work either.
Also, I found that doing the recommended install instead of the full cuts down on install problems.
