To attack the door
"Select your fighter"
There should be a little button at the bottom that looks like a sword, select it and then place your cursor over the door. Click the door to have your fighter try to force it open.
When you select your Thief There are 3 special buttons, A face (Hide in Shadows), what looks like a Zorro mask (pic locks, pick pocket), one that has 4 corners (find, disarm traps). When you select the mask if you place your cursor over the door it should look like a lock. Click the door and it should open if your lock picking skills are high enough. Each different member of your party will have different special buttons.
You have probably figured out some of this by now.
One tip is the spacebar pauses combat/game to allow you to give commands to your individual characters.
