This is a fairly common problem and there are multiple posts if you conduct a search. I'd imagine that they'll probably say to update the drivers of your graphics card, sound card, pacemaker etc. Also, make sure the game is patched - which depends on whether you have How/TotLM installed or just IWD.
Have a look, as you're not the first person to get caught at this annoyingly close stage.
