I think that EXP cap is around 1.8 million (without expansion).
When I played the game through first time, I had about 1 million exp points (6 character party, difficulty: core rules)
Now I'm playing secong time through, but now with insane difficulty (2x more experience) I'm in Lower Dorn's Deep and my 6 characters have 1.5 million exp points.
