Grellen, there is a bug that affects certain cd's of the UK version of the game. The bug causes a game crash when a player tries to enter Lower Dorn's Deep. This sound like the problem you describe.

There is a special patch released for UK versions of the game that have this problem. You should be able to find the UK patch here
