BlakJak and Mojo, I've only had time to do a little bit of digging around and haven't found much on this particular issue. I did want to post, however, so you wouldn't think your questions were being ignored.
A quick question for the two of you, however: Do either of you have virus scan software running in the background while you're playing? I've noticed that some versions of the McAfee scan engine seem to produce behavior similar to what you describe with infinity engine games. This may also happen with other anti-virus products. If so, try rebooting and then disabling your anti-virus software and see how the game behaves.
I'll be away for the weekend and if no one else has found a solution by the time I get back I'll try and dig a little deeper into this question.
