Thanks for the info on the three daughters - got that sorted now.

I went to the Inn at 4am - I entered the map from the North and left the heavily armed posse around the back. The thief/mage went to the front of the Inn where he met the beggar who got a gold piece for his troubles. At 6am the FMV for the sunrise over Baldur's Gate played so I was there before dawn. What are the chances that he'll be there if I go back another night? I've been back to the Thieve's Guild and haven't been attacked in relation to this quest.
