IWD does not have the diversity of side quests and NPC interactions that one finds in BGII. This is in no small part due to the fact that you create all of the characters in your party. As noted above the plot is rather linear, but that being said it is rather fully laid out and it is a quite good story. Personally, I've enjoyed the game every bit as much as I have BGII, in no small measure because it is such a different roleplaying experience.
