To get the vexing thoughts armor - you need to first TALK to the demon, but don't try to command him. Just say goodbye. THEN cast the Contact other planes spell, find out his true name and THEN command him.

For Emmerich, I didn't think you actually meet the wolf until after you returned from Gloomfrost (but not 100% positive). And you won't meet the wolf-form until its night time! (DOH!) He IS a werewolf after all! lol
