I've only just recently found 'Pale Justice', and although my initial reaction was "If only I'd taken a paladin (again)" it occurs to me that paladin's cannot advance past "specialisation" - if I remember correctly.

After that I wasn't worried. My boys and girls have weapons that exceed the bonus, and I think that I can live without the secondary abilities. Unless of course someone knows something about HoW or TotL that I don't (only just got to Lonelywood).

Maybe its me, but I can't see why you'd bother playing one of those guys. More trouble then they're worth. The ranger's spells should compensate - especially with the cleric/ranger. Tell me if I'm wrong

BTW Why wouldn't you place too many slots in maces Sazerac? I've found some right corkers (although in fairness both my fighters have only one slot in them, I often feel that it should be more). Of course, it might be the case that most of them are for clerics, in which case - sorry.
