Depends on how strongly attached to him you were, I guess.

For me he was the ultimate philosophical blood brother if you will, from my second ever run through BG1.
The fact that I used stats from a second ed bard character from a PnP campaign meant that I was even more attached to that particular party.
Mead was singing dark, bhaalic dirges in espousing his pessimisms for the world and trying to croon exactly like Xan by the end of it all.
