Another idea might be to take a look at Icewind Dale IWD and IWD2..
While the story's are a little (read lot) lighter on the story side, you can make whole party's to go forth and dungeon romp in.. Note, very little char interaction, no joinable NPC's so no party banter and the like, quest's are less about talking and more an excuse to go kill stuff.. So depend's if that's your "thang"
You could try BG1 if you've not already, there are some great mod's that let you play it in the BG2 engine..
Some people have suggested Neverwinter Night's, also a pretty fun game to play, though can get very simplistic what with the respawning making death an almost nothing event..
Lionheart legacy of the crusader is quite good, but has that diablo clone feel when playing so you might want to stear clear.
Morrowind, well it's very very diffrent from BG2, it's also nothing like NWN, if you like FPS style gameplay you'll find this game enjoyable probably as it's a cross between the two genres, though you'll see some thing's that just won't make sence, like smuggler's cave not 50 yards (45 metres about) from the Census and excise office.. Every indoor area is a loaded sepparatly from the outside, and NPC's don't move between the two.. I find it fun, but flawed.. Nothing like BG2.
This bring's me onto the more action/Adventure game, Gothic, now it's got very little common ground with BG2, infact they are nothing alike, but I thought I'd mention it because MW got a mention and IMHO it's a better game that Morrowind.. It's a smaller world than Morrowind, but it feel's more alive, with voice acting for all the dialog, quite immersive..
I'd say this, try out the demo's for the games before you buy, it can give you a good idea of what the game's like and if you'll enjoy it or not, don't rely of the word's of stranger's to choose game's you like.
//Edit
Almost forgot, The temple of elemental evil, I've heard both good and bad thing's about this game but it might be what your looking for, it's a little bit closer to true DnD in some way's I'm told
