Time stop followed immediately by improved alacrity will allow you to unleash a ridiculous number of spells before the time stop ends. Extremely useful, I would say.
I think for most of the pocket plane rooms there were going to be certain rewards/abilities after completion, but the designers didn't have time to completely implement them. Now you just finish the room and get on with the rest of the quests.
