You'll still have all of the most important cleric spells and will be able to get your THACO down a more acceptable level much quicker (esp. if you duel to fighter). It would also mean that you can have a kitted cleric with special abilities that you could keep... But don't choose priest of talos though (if you want to duel to ranger) because ranger's can't be evil aligned.
You'd need wisdom at 18 to make the most use of this duel class...

My character is Dual Classed, not Multi Classed. I'm going from Ranger into Cleric because I want to have a high level Cleric in my party. From just two levels of Ranger, I have access to all Cleric AND all Druid spells. The minor loss of being a specialist Cleric of Lathander pale in comparison to this.
My Wisdom should be 20 or 21 by the end of BGI.
