Valen has her own 'dagger' attack free - her Claw. This one's lethal. As she levels up, her claw abilities become nastier and nastier until she's draining 5 levels with one hit, like Bodhi does. You really only need another dagger if you're planning to dual-wield daggers (a damn good idea).
Alas, Valen cannot use Carsomyr. Even with Use Any Item, any holy weapon she touches burns her for half her damage before being removed from her inventory (a nice touch, that).
