IIRC, it should happen, when you're back to Amkethran, all mercenaries and monks will be hostile. yet, if you enter Amkethran from different enterance area, you may confront fewer mercenaries. it's a tough fight, but you should survive, as I recall, they don't just keep spwaning, you can actually kill all of them...and healthy XP
