Sound advice from Mr. Underhill. As the guys have said, play your own game, and develop your own methods through trial and error. Most of the guys and girls here on the forum have some previous RPG experience I would imagine; I know I certainly do, and I kept getting trashed at BG when I first started. (Mind you, I get trounced a lot now so go figure!)

Caution is the watchword in the mines. You can tackle it a level 1 and get through it. Once you get a decent feel for the game, you will most probably take out the kobolds with your own missile weapons, long before they become a problem to you. It just takes time.
