To be fair, it wouldn't really make much sense to "suddenly" become a Sorcerer. You are born as someone with Sorcerer-like abilities or not at all. Within the 3rd edition D&D rules, Sorcerers are treated as a completely different class altogether as well, and I'm glad BG2 didn't make that mistake.
