The "traditional" route is to combine some things from the following list:
  • Defender of Easthaven (must be Warrior or Cleric)
  • Armor of Faith (must be Cleric or Paladin)
  • Hardiness (must be Warrior)
  • Barbarian resistances (must be....duhhhh)
  • Jansen Adventurewear (must be high-level Rogue or a CN Gnomish Thief/Illusionist with Jan's stats or better)
  • Ascension resistances bonus (requires Ascension)
  • Yellow Dragon Scale armor (requires Tactics)
  • Roranach's Helm
  • Belt of Inertial Barrier
Some NPCs have physical resistance bonuses as well--Haer'Dalis has some moderate resistances (though they're not especially remarkable by themselves), and Solaufein has a chance for an incredibly cheesy sword that grants permanent Armor of Faith.
Hardiness. Originally, there was a bug that allowed Hardiness to be cumulative with itself. BaldurDash claimed to have fixed this bug, but I have noticed that the Hardiness gained from Wish is still stackable--and it affects the entire party, to boot. And regular Hardiness will stack with Wish Hardiness.
There's really no such thing as immunity to magical attacks, as so many killer spells ignore Magic Resistance, and more are popping up all the time. But 100% MR is still an extremely valuable asset, and with all the MODs it's quite easy to attain--Purifier, Gaxx, Amulet of the Seldarine and the Cloak of Balduran make a whopping 75%, and when you add in Hell and tMoLtM, that's 90%, and note that none of these items conflicts with any of the items on the Physical Resistances list.
