I *think* I know which one you're talking about .. one ritual-skull is guarded by a captain who takes a different tactic then fighting. It is -if memory serves- the bard. What he'll do is go invisible and just sing his song to buff up his group of guards.
This guy is extremely persistent, he should be somewhere near the skull, but will go invisible time and time again. He has a few invisibility spells and a few potions too.
I'm not sure if that's the skull you're talking about, but its my best guess.
Just try a spell that breaks invisibility, or use mass area-effect or something ..
