Pirengle-
Dualing then is better due to varoius abilities. For example, if you wanted a fighter mage...you could bring the fighter up to level 13, have all kinds of prof points, then get an extra .5 attack per round at level 13 (cause that happens)...and then dual. Also, you'd have more HP than dualing in BG1.
