I believe dual-classing won really matter, except fot the fact that IF you dual-class to a mage at lvl 2, you'll end up being a lvl 2/31 fighter/mage at the end of ToB. That's basically a pureclass mage. So if you want to get any benefit out of dual-classing, it might not be a good idea to start in BG 1 allready.

Also, the wild mage isnt a kit.

The Wild Mage is a class. And I dont think you can convert any BG 1 character to that class. Even if it was a kit, you can only dual into classes, not kits .. so that wouldn't have worked anywayz.

Do consider the wild mage though. I cant tell you with certainty that a pure mage from BG: 1 cant be converted into a wild mage once starting SoA.
Hopefully someone else knows.

I am currently playing a party of 4 wild mages + 1 sorcerer. And i must say that Wild Mages are a lot of fun, not to mention potentially extremely powerfull around ToB-time ( infinite lvl 9 spells, search the SoA-forum for the topic using the search-function, just search for " wild mage " or something ).
