Remember that each stage of the battle is triggered by you and not Melissan. Use this to your advantage. Heal and resurrect your characters, restock your quick items, exploit spell recharge techniques (you can't sleep) whatever. Just make sure that you're ready before you waltz off to fight her or the elemental princes.
Use your summons wisely.
