The only reason why you should reload BG2 that I can think of is that if you start a new game in TOB you cannot have/continue a romance.
Apart from that, I don't see any reason why you couldn't equip the items you want using SK, after all it's your game and you decide how you want to play it. If you don't feel up to going through the entire BG2 story again, just don't do it
