I will start to state that I am not a member of either B.Y.O.B. or K.A.K.
I have always seen the kobolds as part of the lower end of the food chain (somewhere between squirels and hobgoblings (I'll bet that the wolves and the bears are taking a 'kobold-snack' from time to time )).
I do not think that we could train the whole kobold 'community' to be more civilized (maybe a couple of individuals - as when having a pet dire wolf following your tracks). But I do not know, as none has tried yet (I have heard a lot of talk, but seen no action yet).
The only problem I see, is that you, as (I certainly hope) one of the individuals at the top of the 'food chain', cannot just ignore those small biting-as-hungry-mosquitoes-on-a-hot-day-in-the-jungle creatures. If only you could agree on some global if-you-kobolds-would-ignore-me-I-will-ignore-you-agreement, the problem would be solved.
I guess if we let the B.Y.O.B members fulfill their save-the-kobold-task (and thereby making the kobolds ignore the rest of us), the rest of us could take on other (and more) important tasks (i.e. slaughtering the more 'fleshy' creatures).
The only downside, I can see by choosing this solution, is that as soon as the B.Y.O.B community makes progress (though I doubt they will) with civilizing the kobolds, they will start to demand that the same action should be taken with the more fleshy beasts, ending up with no work to do for a strong swordarm.
Some of evil alignment might argue that there is nothing wrong with 'sitting ducks', but what should all the real heroes make for a living? Hunt down the evil aligned?
