I'm playing a multiplayer game with 3 created pc's and 3 npc's:
Grindar: Paladin LG HM
Galiana: Cleric LG HF
Rowena: Mage-Thief NG HF
&
Yoshimo, Jaheira and Aerie.

I have to PCs, a Male Paladin and a Skald. Becuase the Paladin was created as the first slot, The top left slot on the char arbitration screen, he is Numero Uno. So I therefore get the Radiant Heart Stronghold. If my skald had been created int he #1 spot, then it would be the Bard/Play stronghold.
The point is, only one PC can be the main person.
