OK, first: Wild Magi. These are considered by some, including me, the most powerful Wizard class. Their benefits are: they get the extra spell slot that all specialist Mage kits get, but without the restriction in spell schools. Whereas other specialists can't learn spells from one or two schools, Wild Magi can learn them all, like a non-specialist. Furthermore, they are the only ones that can cast Nahal's Reckless Dweomer, a spell that lets you cast any spell in your book, regardless of level. It's quite a lot of fun to cast 9th level spells as a 10th level Mage. Only drawback to this spell is, that it always ends in a wild surge, so it will probably not go as planned. Those wild surges are their biggest con, but also something of a mixed blessing/curse. They can prove disastrous, like turning yourself to stone, but they can also be very handy: spells doing double damage, giving all your party members their own private timestop. All in all very powerful, and a lot of fun to play.

Sarevok: yes, he will join a good-aligned party. He will bitch a bit, but won't pick any fights, like Minsc vs Edwin and such. Actually, big brother is even more fun when tagging along to a good-aligned player character, he has a big surprise in store for you if you treat him right.

Difficulty: I can't say much about this, as I always play on core difficulty. Haven't tried anything else.

Skill pools, do you mean the High Level Abilities with this? For a Mage, Comet and Dragon's Breath are very good, and Improved Alacrity is the best: cast spell after spell, without having to wait a full round inbetween. For a Fighter, Greater Whirlwind is probably the best.
