I must confess to not being attracted to Archers either. I used one in a Multiplayer party, and she was easily the least valuable. Sure, she had a THAC0 of -20 with the right equipment, but nobody got a "Weapon Ineffective" more than she did. I think more than 50% of the time she was forced to use her halberd.
