example: Say you had a THac0 of 14 (this means that if an enemy had an armor class of zero you would need a total of 14 to hit him)
This number is reached in a number of ways -
1)The computer randomly generates a number between 1 and 20 (1 always misses, 20 always hits)
2)modifiers (strength/dexterity/magic weapons etc...) are added/subtracted to this
3)armor class is added/subtracted to this (e.g. armor class of 2 = a 2 will be added to the roll, armor class of -4 = -4 will be subtracted from the roll)
The final number is then compared to your THac0, if it is less than there is no hit, if it is equal to or greater than there is a hit.
