That may have something to do with it - it shouldn't, but who knows.

Since it's got a whole bunch of new dialogue, Ascension comes with a new dialog.tlk file (which is where all text in the game is stored, including item descriptions). So if you've got mods installed that have modified or replaced your dialog.tlk files funny things can happen. Try uninstalling it and seeing what happens.
