i beat him at about level 18 because of one great combo
Summon as many creatures as you can
when you go flying back, hopefully the your summoned creatures will charge foward again and hold him off giving your characters time to recover.
Now use a dispell and hit him with every powerful spell you have as well as your fighters attacking head on.
