Archers are actually one of the better-liked PC classes in BG2, at least in many posts I've read. Nothing beats taking down an adversary quickly at a distance. I tend to prefer mage, sorc and battlemage types, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate the joys of shooting somebody's brains out before they've had a chance to draw a weapon.
