How fast computer do you have? When this happens, it usually is the RAM that isn't cooperating... you need more of it that is. It may also depend on your processor, though I am not so sure at that point.
Well, if you do have more than P 266 mhz with 64 meg RAM, it may be your disc-drive who is broken. Checkthat one out too.

BUT, before you buy loads of ram and a brand new DVD-drive, you should try to re-install the game. Try full install. That usually fix everything up.
