To use smite effectively, you must smite him/her/it against a wall. Smite
stuns, so you get free hits.
Smite is also useful to smite minions away while you work on the Boss.

I used smite in the fight with Melissan, blew all her minions away so that I could concentrate on spanking her naughty little butt. 
Smite also works against Mind Flayers,
, heh, finally, you become more irritating than them.
Smite made most fights for me a walk in the park, LOL. I love smite, I just hate it that they only allow you to have one per fighter.
Oh, by the way, Archer and Smite are made for each other, LMAO.
Your Archer spends one shot per target to stun them, so that your tanks get to beat the enemy senseless with no danger, oh, and did you know? Smite stuns
Beholders too.
With proper usage, Smite rocks.
