Melissan... you meet her as a goddie in the begining of the game. Then you meet her as the final boss... you get no time to hate her. She doesn't do anything that is worse than Sarevok or Irenicus really... At least, I don't see it as it..

Actually, I couldn't really hate Sarevok in BG1. Yes, he kills your father, but beyond that, you hardly ever see the guy. I felt he was completely undeveloped as a villian in BG1. At least, he could have had some speech when he died about a secret he had or something (knowledge about you and Imoen's past). This would have been a good bit of foreshadowing for ToB, at least. But he was just very cardboard in BG1. I feel Melissan is the same way ("Oh, we need some big boss for the expansion, and we are behind schedule." Everyone looks around at each other, not wanting to do it, then look at the new guy. "Hey Billy, I want you to pull some overtime this weekend and whip up a master villian real quick.").
Now, Jon Irenicus was a great villian! The did a good job of developing him, and he helped to make the game more exciting (let's face it, every hero needs a good nemesis to make the story interesting).
That's just my two cents.
