yeah, those spike traps are VERY powerfull if your have a good idea where the monster will be (and here you do). By comparison I found time-stop to be nearly worhless (and against an opponent like you have here, a serious negative).
make sure you have LOTS of healing potions and save after every battle (pace your self).
