Hmmm...I have a sneaking suspicion that you are playing a Paladin who is using Carsomyr as their main weapon. If that is the case, then that explains why the Ring of Gaxx and Cloak appear to not work.
Carsomyr *sets* your MR to 50% each time you equip it. If you want your MR bonuses to stack properly, you need to equip Carsomyr, then re-equip the Ring of Gaxx, re-equip the Cloak of Balduran, and re-equip anything else that grants MR. Once you do that, everything should add up correctly. Hope that helps!
In the future, you can also cast Protection from Magic and choose the Abjuration school. As Imprisonment is an Abjuration spell, it will fail on you.
