Alignments aren't binding contracts. They're guidlines that provide a base for the character's overall standpoint. In other words, they're the AVERAGE of the character, of their views and actions.
A good character could potentially find justification to do something evil (Like say..... razing a town so a plague doesn't spread.)
Likewise an evil character could find justification to do something good.
